PA-42 February 24 Special Election - Endorsement

The housing shortage is a critical issue currently facing the citizens of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, and Pennsylvania. We believe the solution to this crisis involves providing abundant and affordable housing for all. We fight for more housing because we want to reduce poverty, end homelessness, eliminate racial segregation, create jobs, and stop climate change, and we believe elected officials at every level play an important role in solving this crisis.

We have endorsed candidates for the upcoming February 24th special election after evaluating their positions and responses to our Candidate Questionnaire.

All responses are published here, and informed our official endorsement of Jen Mazzocco for House District 42

Pro-Housing Pittsburgh endorses Jen Mazzocco for House District 42. Mazzocco has shown a deep knowledge of the root causes of housing unaffordability not only in her district, but also in Pennsylvania as a whole. She has committed to supporting policies that will make housing accessible to all, such as zoning reform, regular property tax reassessments, transit-oriented development, and a bipartisan package of bills intended to tackle the housing crisis head-on.

Serving on Dormont Council, first as Vice President, then as President, Jen has contributed to zoning reform that has already helped enable housing construction in the borough. Jen’s concern about the impact of sprawl on greenhouse gas emissions and willingness to investigate ways to strengthen Pennsylvania’s FAIR program showcases her consideration of the long-term impact of the housing policy choices we make today.

House District 42 needs a representative like Jen to speak out against the housing crisis and for abundant, affordable housing.
